About This Course

This ten-week online course is the flagship technical programme from Twelve Football, designed for aspiring football data scientists who want to build the full Python, statistics and machine-learning stack needed to work professionally in the game. The curriculum moves from visualising event data — passes, shots and defensive actions — through expected goals, expected threat, scouting radars and team-level metrics, before stepping into pitch control with tracking data, large language models in football, and an introduction to deep learning. The course uses real event, tracking and physical data from leading providers, and concludes with student presentations.

Delivered online by Soccermatics author Professor David Sumpter (Uppsala University) with Twelve's experts as tutors, the course combines recorded tutorials, small-group sessions, one-to-one support and group projects with peers from real clubs. Guest lectures come from world-leading practitioners and researchers working with data in football. The next intake begins on 18 May 2026.
