Sports Physiotherapy Studies, MSc

Designed for qualified physiotherapists holding at least a 2:1 degree, this MSc at Teesside University builds advanced clinical expertise in managing and preventing sports injuries. Students develop critical reasoning skills grounded in evidence-based practice, covering exercise physiology, clinical biomechanics, rehabilitation of injured athletes, and exercise prescription. The curriculum is shaped by International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy competencies and draws on input from clinicians working across professional and elite sporting environments.

The programme is delivered on campus in Middlesbrough over two years, with attendance of two to three days per week in year one. Year two incorporates a supervised internship of up to twelve weeks at a sports physiotherapy host site, alongside a dissertation. Teaching is provided by Teesside University academic staff with clinical backgrounds in physiotherapy and sports science, supported by external elite-sport practitioners. Graduates earn the MSc Sports Physiotherapy Studies award.
