Sport Journalism, BA (Hons)

Teesside University's Sport Journalism BA (Hons) is designed for aspiring journalists who want to report across multiple platforms, including TV, radio, print and social media. Students develop practical skills in video and audio production, match reporting, interviewing, news writing and social media engagement, while also gaining grounding in media law and editorial judgement. The course is suited to those seeking a career in sports journalism and benefits from industry partnerships with organisations such as the BBC, Reach PLC, Newsquest and Middlesbrough Football Club.

Delivered on campus in Middlesbrough, the course runs for a minimum of two years full-time, with a part-time option also available. An optional work placement year can extend study further, including an on-campus placement opportunity with Teesside Online, part of Reach PLC. The programme is accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), a widely recognised credential in the industry. Teaching staff are experienced journalism practitioners, and students have access to two television studios, a radio station and a dedicated multimedia newsroom.
