BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science

Designed for students with a strong interest in the science underpinning sport and physical activity, this University of Derby degree covers core and specialist topics across sport and exercise science, including performance profiling, injury rehabilitation, biomechanics and physiology. Students can tailor their studies through elective modules and undertake work experience with partner organisations such as Derby County FC, Leicester City FC and Leicester Tigers Rugby Club. Additional vocational qualifications in areas such as coaching, first aid and professional practice are also available.

Delivered on campus in Derby, the programme is a full undergraduate degree of three or more years, with an optional placement year available. It is endorsed by the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) under their Undergraduate Endorsement Scheme — the only such endorsement available for undergraduate sport courses in the UK — providing students with free CASES membership and a designated pathway towards full accreditation upon completion of further postgraduate study. The course is led by Programme Leader Mark Newman alongside an expert teaching team that includes accredited practitioners and active researchers.
