Emergency Medical First Aid in Football

Aimed at training support staff — including coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, sports science practitioners, and newly qualified doctors or therapists — Emergency Medical First Aid in Football builds on prior first aid knowledge to develop advanced skills for assisting medical staff in pre-hospital emergency situations. The course covers emergency action planning, primary A-E assessment, sudden cardiac arrest, Basic Life Support with AED use, airway management, limb-threatening fractures, head and spinal injuries, and medical emergencies specific to football. Prior completion of Introduction to First Aid in Football and Emergency First Aid in Football is recommended.

Delivered by The FA as a one-day classroom course at venues across the country, the programme combines practical exercises, theory, demonstrations, and Q&A sessions. On successful completion, participants earn a qualification that is valid for three years and must be renewed to remain current. The course sits as the third stage on The FA's medical pathway, with progression available to the Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football course.
