The EE Playmaker

Designed for anyone aged 14 and over who wants to take a more active supporting role in grassroots football, EE Playmaker by England Football requires no prior coaching experience or qualifications. Across ten modules, participants learn how to create inclusive sessions, communicate and motivate players, plan and deliver football activities using the STEP framework and England DNA principles, review sessions, and respond to medical emergencies and safeguarding situations. The course suits a wide range of volunteers, from parents helping at a junior club to students getting involved in school or university football.

The course is delivered entirely online by The FA through England Football Learning and takes approximately four to five hours to complete. It is free to access and requires only an FA Number and a compatible device. Completion opens a pathway to further credentials — including the Safeguarding Children Course, Introduction to First Aid in Football, and a DBS check — needed to progress to an FA Lead Playmaker role.
