Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football

Aimed at registered healthcare professionals — including doctors, physiotherapists, paramedics, nurses, graduate sports therapists, and sports rehabilitators — the Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) builds advanced immediate care skills for the pre-hospital, sports environment of football. The course focuses exclusively on life- and limb-threatening injuries and emergencies, covering areas such as sudden cardiac arrest, airway management, spinal injury, head injuries, and emergency action planning, rather than routine musculoskeletal conditions.

Delivered face-to-face over two days at venues including St George's Park and external football grounds, the course combines practical workshops, theory sessions, and demonstrations, alongside a minimum of 12–16 hours of pre-course preparation. Endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, it awards a qualification that must be renewed every three years. The course is delivered by The FA and sits as the fourth step on its medical education pathway.
