MSc Sport & Exercise Physiology

Designed for graduates with a background in sports science, exercise science, physiology, or related disciplines, this MSc examines the physiological and metabolic effects of exercise and training on the human body. Students build applied expertise through hands-on laboratory work, developing practical skills in exercise testing and data analysis. The curriculum includes core modules in Advanced Exercise Physiology, Research Process, Professional Practice, and a Major Independent Study, alongside optional modules in clinical exercise testing, evidence-based sports physiology, and mechanisms of adaptation in exercise training.

Delivered full-time over 12 months at Leeds Beckett University's Headingley Campus, the programme is classroom-based and taught within the Carnegie School of Sport — ranked in the QS World University Rankings top 100 for Sports-Related Subjects. Teaching takes place in a dedicated Sport and Exercise Physiology Laboratory equipped with gas analysers, blood lactate analysers, and metabolic monitoring technology. Students are supported by an academic advisor and subject-specific library resources throughout their studies.
