BA (Hons) Sports Journalism

Plymouth Marjon University's BA (Hons) Sports Journalism equips students with the practical and theoretical skills demanded by the contemporary sports media industry. The programme covers broadcast production, digital storytelling, investigative journalism, radio and TV scripting, podcasting, and long-form writing, with students producing content for partners including Plymouth Argyle, Plymouth Albion, and Plymouth Patriots. Teaching input comes from journalists and editors associated with BBC, Sky Sports, Match of the Day, ITV West Country, and The Guardian, making the course suited to those pursuing careers across sports broadcasting, digital media, and print journalism.

Delivered full-time on campus in Plymouth, the degree runs for three years and is based at The Workshop, a broadcast hub situated on the BBC South West campus, giving students access to professional TV and radio studios, Apple devices, DSLR cameras, and industry-standard editing software. Third-year students are paired with a BBC mentor, and one module is taught entirely by BBC journalists, producers, and digital filmmakers. The award is a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and is delivered by Plymouth Marjon University.
