BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education

Delivered at Solent University's Southampton City Centre campus, this three-year BSc (Hons) combines sports coaching theory and practice with physical education, preparing students for careers in community coaching, sports development, and teaching. The course suits motivated applicants with a passion for sport and education, and includes embedded work placements of two to five hours per week across all three years, with partners including Southampton Football Club and local schools managed through the Southampton School Sports Partnership.

Teaching is classroom-based on campus, with substantial practical delivery in schools, sports halls, and community settings. The standard course runs for three years, with options extending to four or five years through a foundation year and/or an industry placement year. Students can earn additional qualifications including ActiveiQ, CIMSPA recognition, and 1st4sport awards alongside their degree. The course is also recognised by the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and positions graduates for progression into Initial Teacher Training routes such as PGCE or School Direct.
