BSc (Hons) Football Studies

Solent University's BSc (Hons) Football Studies is a three-year undergraduate degree — with foundation year and industry placement variants also available — designed for students passionate about pursuing a career in professional football. Delivered at Solent's Southampton City Centre campus, the programme spans coaching, performance analysis, recruitment, player care, psychology, data, and football governance, combining academic study with substantial practical experience at clubs and community settings. The course is open to applicants from a wide range of academic backgrounds and is suited to those aiming to work across the game at grassroots, national, or international level.

Teaching takes place in person at Solent's Test Park football centre, which includes a full-size 3G pitch and an FA Step 5 arena, alongside modern teaching facilities. The programme is delivered by a research-active academic team and benefits from a formal partnership with Southampton FC. Assessment is entirely coursework-based — covering practical assignments, presentations, and live briefs — with no examinations. The course has been mapped to CIMSPA professional standards, and graduates have gone on to roles at organisations including FIFA, the FA, the Premier League, and over 60 professional clubs worldwide.
