DSC Taught Doctorate in Sport Coaching

Cardiff Metropolitan University's Taught Doctorate in Sport Coaching (DSC) is designed for experienced coaching practitioners and scholars seeking to develop high-level, applied expertise in their field. Rather than following a traditional research-focused PhD model, the programme emphasises the relationship between coaching theory and practice, with all participants required to be actively coaching throughout their studies. Potential career pathways include sport coaching, coach education, coach development, and higher education lecturing.

Delivered at the Cyncoed Campus by the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences, the programme is taught through lectures, interactive seminars, directed study, and individual tutorials, with additional support via the Moodle virtual learning environment. Assessment combines written assignments, presentations, portfolios, and oral vivas.
