Modelling Expected Goals (xG)

Aimed at analysts and football professionals who already have a foundational understanding of Expected Goals, this intermediate-level module builds on that knowledge by exploring how xG models are constructed and applied in practice. Learners are taken through the full modelling process — from selecting an algorithm and calibrating the model to using xG for performance analysis and player recruitment — supported by interactive exercises drawn from the work of professional analysts.

The module is delivered entirely online and comprises approximately two hours of training material, accessible at the learner's own pace via a browser on laptop or PC. Content was developed in collaboration with data scientists from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and is provided by AnalyiSport. The course is CPD accredited, forms part of AnalyiSport's Level 2 Understanding Data in Football qualification, and awards a certificate of completion.
