Statistical Modelling in Football

Aimed at analysts, coaches, journalists and those with an existing grounding in football data analysis, this intermediate module explores how statistical modelling is applied within professional football. Topics include using models to analyse players, teams and tactics, selecting appropriate inputs, evaluating outputs, feature engineering, and the role of machine learning. The module also addresses how to interpret key metrics such as Expected Goals and how analysts can collaborate effectively with data scientists at clubs.

Delivered entirely online and completable within two hours, the module is self-paced and accessible across multiple devices. It is CPD accredited and forms part of AnalyiSport's Level 2 Understanding Data in Football qualification, with a certificate of completion awarded upon finishing. Content was developed in collaboration with data scientists from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and produced by AnalyiSport's digital learning team.
