UEFA A Licence

Designed for experienced coaches operating at elite youth or top amateur level, the UEFA A Licence develops competence across four key areas: the role of the coach, player and team development, training environment design, and match preparation. Candidates must hold a valid UEFA B Licence and have completed at least one year of post-qualification coaching in 11-a-side football, along with two Scottish FA e-learning modules covering children's wellbeing and mental health.

Delivered by the Scottish FA, the course follows a blended learning model combining virtual classrooms, self-directed assignments, and two in-person coaching practice blocks — totalling at least 10 days of online learning, 8 days of in-person practice, and up to 12 additional days of task completion. A final phase requires candidates to submit video recordings of training sessions for practical assessment. Successful completion leads to the UEFA A Licence, a widely recognised professional coaching qualification.
